Whats the purpose of using ethanol after sterilizing a gl stick (this is for biology lab)??? thanks?

What is the purpose of using ethanol after sterilizing a gl stick?? We are doing this lab in college level biology and i was wondering why we use ethanol? is it because its reactive??
