Why do otherwise intelligent people, believe in invisible beings?

and to some people science is nothing but theories which are estimates which means "best guess." saying that someone is unintelligent just for believing something different from you is very ignorant! so in turn that would make you unintelligent wouldn't it? it's best to keep your mind open to all possibilities.
