Renting apartment?

I looked at an apartment recently. I needed a credit check. I have NO credit aside my student loans.. (which are in DEFERMENT) he called back and said that he is worried since i have student loans.. And he has to have a meeting with other people. What are my chances of getting this apartment? Could my student loans really hold me back even if im not paying on them yet? Will i need a co-signer and/or to pay extra $? ( I am no longer a student. )
